I actually remember this girl bringing him up to me in a conversation in a coffeeshop business I started 25 years ago in the college town where I went to school in Lexington, Virginia. She was from India but had also recently graduated from the same school. At the time I was reading all this stuff on alchemy and we were having coffee and talking about art equivalents, and lucid dreaming and things like that, and she said whatever I was talking about at that moment reminded her of Rene Magritte. And so I looked him up.
And since then his style definitely influenced me towards magical realism in my own focus on what to depict artistically.
You may enjoy this photo series I did based solely on his piece “The Lovers II”

Well, I think Magritte is not Magritte
