My favorite museum? I don’t know that these are my faves but they came to mind now (I’m sure tomorrow different ones will be first to come to mind): the Old Masters and New Masters gallery in Dresden, the Lenbachhus and Old Masters museum in Munich, the modern art museum in Stuttgart (it has a wonderful collection of Otto Dix paintings), the Amon Carter, and the Kimball.
Exciting, Alina! I have been following since the start and it has been a great journey. I vividly remember the Hopper article, in particular, as a touchstone for new interest.
For your new project, I am hoping we can get a listing for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the Kelly Fitzgerald Center for the Arts in Wetumpka in your new directory. MMFA was founded in 1930 by the renowned artist of Alabama, Kelly Fitzpatrick (1888-1953). My great grandmother, Ann Dowdell, was the first director of the museum. She was friends with Fitzpatrick, who brought plein air art groups to her country property on multiple occasions, to paint various rural folk and natural setting scenes from the 30s- early 50s.
The Kelly in Wetumpka today is founded on his legacy, in his birth town, where he led an art colony for decades. And last year it was voted Alabama's Best Gallery. There are 100s of artists currently plugging in with the Kelly as an emerging regional capital in Central Alabama, and a clearinghouse for bigger art-centric events. There is a big River Region Art Summit there later this month: https://thekelly.org/rras/
In addition, I would also put a plug in for a listing of The Lucky Bug Art Gallery in Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica, operated by a German-American family with a fascinating story, over the past 30 years. Monica Krauskopf, the mother and owner of the family, sources a lot of local Costa Rican artisans, in this interesting crossroads of Euro/American/Latino cultural exchange: https://luckybugcr.com/gallery/ It is truly a "hidden gem" in a phenomenally enchanted setting near lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano.
Good luck with this project and I will continue to follow and read! Thanks for your awesome work!
That is so interesting!! Thank you so much for sharing. I just added the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the Kelly Fitzgerald Center for the Arts to the directory.
